The archaeologist who showed us the maps etc, was quite taken aback when my first question was “Why are you digging it up when you know what is there?” He assured me it was to stabalise the walls – although two of the trenches were outside the church. When I asked about any settlement nearby (to go with the church) they seemed unhappy to reply. Not sure if they didn’t know, or just didn’t want Jo public knowing about it (which I suppose is fair comment).
Didn’t manage to get any pics. It was windy as hell and slightly drizzly! Redwulf and the Walking Wall wanted to go somewhere slightly warmer.
