My day job is that I’m a 1st year student nurse, but in between shifts and lectures I must admit to being an armchair archaeologist. I hail from Teesside (north east England). I have been interested in archaeology since school when we ‘investigated’ the finds from an old saxon burial place at nearby Norton. My interest grew thanks to numerous visits to York, and a really good history teacher who thought that local history was just as important as national, and who explained the importance of the Stockton to Darlington railway. I must admit that the the pull of history and archaeology has become so strong that I booked my last holiday to Turkey on the strength of the historical attractions – but there’s nothing like swimming along a roman high street (Pamukkale) or standing next to the old library at Ephesus.
I have a love of mediaeval music and tapestry, but I don’t think that my efforts will ever get that good.
