I’m looking forward to this one. It’s in the Cantiaci lands, and it looks like a challenge – two possible sites, both ambiguous. I just hope they don’t find definitive evidence in the last hour. That has happened so often, it’s downright suspicious_________________Sir Mark

Well I guess I’m very much in the minority over this one. I thought it interesting, if only to see the incredible state of preservation of the boat, but… They were partially uncovering a Roman boat, which was known about and already partially excavated in the past, only to take a chunk out of it and then cover it over again. The state of preservation of wood, artifacts and relics in the lowlands is quite something, on a par with Bog Bodies._________________

Just watched this one. I have agree with Jenni, this is also my favourite of the series (so far!) The enthusiasm of the houseowner (Penny?) was great to see, as was her digging in Phil’s trench. As I saw it, the lead based glaze (sparkly!) worked the best, whereas the other one didn’t get hot enough to melt on the brick. A little leap of faith, I thought, in finding two walls 50ft (?) apart, then declaring, “We’ve found the Great Hall!”, because, “They’re normally that size”! I know they had that lovely old plan to work from, but a little more proof for me, please!
A lot more banter shown between the Team, which I enjoyed, especially JG asking MA, “Are you going to be digging today?”, MA answered, “Only if it warms up!”
Not my favourite period, but an enjoyable and interesting programme!
