I went in late at Warrington, and got the turned heads only to be followed 5 minutes later by a certain big scouser, but I’m too polite to name him.

To be honest Apathamus the real reason I didn’t go in was my belly was by then screaming for something to eat so wandered across the traffic lights to Tesco’s

John Taylor the Water Poet, a curious chap responsible for the following, which might be familiar to some! “There is a Proverbe, and a prayer withall, That we may not to these strange places fall, From Hull, from Halifax, from Hell, ‘tis thus, From all these three, Good Lord deliver us. This praying proverb’s meaning to set down, Men do not wish deliverance from the Town: The towns named Kingston, Hull’s furious River: And from Hull’s dangers, I say Lord deliver. At Halifax, the law so sharp doth deal, That whoso more than 13 Pence doth steal, They have a jyn* that wondrous quick and well, Sends thieves all headless unto Heav’n or Hell. From Hell each man says, Lord deliver me, Because from Hell can no redemption be: Men may escape from Hull and Halifax, But sure in Hell there is a heavier tax, Let each one for themselves in this agree, And pray, from Hell good Lord deliver me.” Works of John Taylor The Water Poet, whose works extended from 1612 to 1653.

Just watched this one. I have agree with Jenni, this is also my favourite of the series (so far!) The enthusiasm of the houseowner (Penny?) was great to see, as was her digging in Phil’s trench. As I saw it, the lead based glaze (sparkly!) worked the best, whereas the other one didn’t get hot enough to melt on the brick. A little leap of faith, I thought, in finding two walls 50ft (?) apart, then declaring, “We’ve found the Great Hall!”, because, “They’re normally that size”! I know they had that lovely old plan to work from, but a little more proof for me, please!

A lot more banter shown between the Team, which I enjoyed, especially JG asking MA, “Are you going to be digging today?”, MA answered, “Only if it warms up!”

Not my favourite period, but an enjoyable and interesting programme!

I enjoyed this one too! Although it was a little disconcerting to see Francis-the-Bronze-Age-man in charge of an Industrial dig! I also, quite seriously, wondered if the coin was some kind of offering, but I missed exactly where it was found. Bob wondered who was going to pay for the car park reinstatement – I wondered, from the look of it and from the obviously-redeveloped area around it, whether they were digging precisely because the area is about to be built on and the mill remains lost under glass and steel and concrete. Does anyone know?_________________

That is an interesting site, Jean. Listening to R5 at work yesterday morning, there was a 3hr programme all about the civil war in Former Yugoslavia. To ease the fragile ethnic tensions, which still exist, possible victims of genocide are called “the missing” (as I think victims of the Junta are in Argentina) The main priority, when a body(ies) is found, is to identify that person and let their family give them a proper burial._________________
