I am a big TT fan with interests in nearly all peroids, but especially neolithic monuments and landscapes, been watching TT since the very first series.

Currently a civil servant looking into doing some archaeolgy study from home in the near future, maybe the courses offered by Exeter University (If you know of any others let me know – pref to dimploma or degree level). Living on the Lincolnshire coast. Thinking of putting a trench in my back garden but know will only find Victorian (I might be surprised!).

Special Interest Areas

Period – Neolithic up to the Roman invasion.

Area – Neolithic monuments of Wiltshire, Cumbria and Cornwall. (but anywhere with a high density of monuments!)

I am a student from East Yorkshire. I come from a farming family, and I have a keen interest in animals, the countryside and agriculture. I am currently studying at Bishop Burton College for a BSc. (Hons) in Animal Science & Management in the second year of a three-year course.

I also keep a small herd of pedigree Dexter cattle; one of the closest related modern breeds to the domesticated cattle of the early Celts. I have always been interested in history and archaeology, fuelled somewhat by the history of my village and the part it played in the uprising of 1536, the “Pilgrimage of Grace”. I enjoyed the subjects of History, Geography & Science at school and these three areas have continued to fascinate me ever since.

Musically I can be heard listening to everything from Dire Straits to The Proclaimers, but unfortunately I am not talented in that field…best leave it to the experts, I think!

I am a member of The Friends of York Archaeological Trust, The Council for British Archaeology, and, of course, the Time Team Club. I plan to, in the future, study and gain some qualification in the field of archaeology.

I have watched Time Team on & off for a while but only really became “hooked” during the 2000 specials broadcast around Christmas. The wonderful mix of “as it happens” archaeology, enthralling education, fantastic reconstructions/cameos, and the fact that everyone involved is a real character & passionate about the subject keeps me glued to the set and/or relying on the video recorder whenever Time Team is broadcast.

Special Interest Areas

I enjoy archaeology from any period, but my particular specialities lie within British Roman & Neolithic archaeology. Family holidays in Scotland and the North of England also started an interest in Scottish/N of E history, which continues to this day.

My father was a german fighter pilot who died this year so I’ve always had an interest in WW2. I always had a great interest in history and wanted to help out on a dig. I then suffered a serious accident and my life changed from doing to watching. I spend many hours watching time time and reading the many books. I would love to be able to have gone on a dig but watching is the next best thing.

I became interested in Archaeology after a brief visit to the Jorvik dig way back in the 70’s. I was amazed they could tell so much from bits of rubbish. I was unable to take this further until 1986 when I bunked off school to work on two digs, the first at fishergate in York and the second under what now is tesco’s car park doncaster. Many years passed before I again dug taking the opportunity of joining a local society and going to there summer dig. In november 2000 I was given the opportunity to excavate as employment and have been doing so since) My main areas of interest are in Roman Britain with emphasis on The port of Roman London and Danum (Doncaster). However I love any form of archaeology.

Although I don’t post much on the Forum these days due to work and University commitments I still keep ‘in touch’ through Dad (Ian G.). I have always been interested in history since school, but became involved in archaeology at the amateur level through the influence of my father. Although I have little time for practical work, I have undertaken some fieldwork through the local group. Most of my time these days is taken up by completing a BA (Hons) in Social and Behavioural Studies at Hull University; my Dissertation just nicely underway.

On a personal note, I have a lot to thank the Forum for since through it I met my future wife Emma (Emma L.) and we are, at present, planning our wedding on Aug.18th 2001 (an open invite to all FF is cordially extended by both of us).

By profession, I am an Operating Theatre nurse (some 18 years service) specialising in Elective and Trauma Orthopaedics; at present seconded to the Orthopaedic Trauma Team at Hull Royal Infirmary I plan to move down to Dorset in the New Year.

Special Interest Areas

Palaeopathology and Osteoarchaeology

My main historical interest I would have to say lies with the Romans, although the Bronze Age right through to the Vikings also has a bit of a soft spot. I also have a passing interest in Church Architecture, don’t ask me why, I just think churches are very photogenic for some reason.
Other than Archaeology my main interests are Fell-Walking / Rambling and Photography.

My day job is that I’m a 1st year student nurse, but in between shifts and lectures I must admit to being an armchair archaeologist. I hail from Teesside (north east England). I have been interested in archaeology since school when we ‘investigated’ the finds from an old saxon burial place at nearby Norton. My interest grew thanks to numerous visits to York, and a really good history teacher who thought that local history was just as important as national, and who explained the importance of the Stockton to Darlington railway. I must admit that the the pull of history and archaeology has become so strong that I booked my last holiday to Turkey on the strength of the historical attractions – but there’s nothing like swimming along a roman high street (Pamukkale) or standing next to the old library at Ephesus.

I have a love of mediaeval music and tapestry, but I don’t think that my efforts will ever get that good.

Special Interest Areas

Roman, Saxon, Mediaeval and Victorian England and WW2 Germany
