Followed that link, Co. I used her website when visiting the area and found it useful. But I had to grit my teeth over the messages she published. I was very tempted to reply but thought it best not to! I actually enjoyed the programme very much, and thought it showed well how hellish difficult it is to interpret such sites, plus contained useful stuff like looking for evidence washed out of its original location. I think there is generally a desire for instant answers and spectacular action-packed filming, but that doesn’t happen in real life, and especially not in real archaeology. From my very limited experience of digging a Romano British settlement, it’s slow, laborious, and excitement comes as much from minute changes in soil colour as bits of pot – three cremation vessels in the 9th year, and probably nothing more for a few years yet! So credit due to John Pull especially, and also to the TT_________________

OK, OK, thanks Co. I found it just before I went to bed 2 nights ago. I never have time to post in the mornings & last night I couldn’t get onto the Forum! Sadly we are busy at work now so I don’t get a look in there either.

So, just in case people haven’y heard, Grime Team 3 is out. It’s on DVD or VHS & is £8.00, of which £3.00 goes straight to the Copped Hall Trust Archaeology Project

Very good report Phil. I should have my pictures done possibly tomorrow although I don’t actually think I took that many to be honest. Was having a bit of a day of it on Saturday and ended up having a really bad headache by the end of it. Got home and just lay on the settee before giving up and going to bed at 9pm. Had a really good time even if it was a tad bit chilly whatever it says on the label

Much better now thanks – think I am just in need of a holiday but I only have two weeks to go before I have a week off work so can’t complain too much. Glad to see that you arrived safely back and not as an ice sculpture although not too pleased that you brought the weather with you as well – couldn’t believe my eyes when I got up Saturday and there was an inch of snow and suddenly became 6 years old again wanting to dash out and build a snowman but I resisted the temptation and used the excuse that I need to fill the bird feeder up to walk in the snow

All of my nieces are bit too old for that kind of thing – one of them has just had a baby boy … this is what happens when you are the youngest and more to the point a bit of a late arrival

Time Team Forum Friends :: View topic – Episode 4 -The First Tudor Palace? – 12 Feb

Just watched this one. I have agree with Jenni, this is also my favourite of the series (so far!) The enthusiasm of the houseowner (Penny?) was great to see, as was her digging in Phil’s trench. As I saw it, the lead based glaze (sparkly!) worked the best, whereas the other one didn’t get hot enough to melt on the brick. A little leap of faith, I thought, in finding two walls 50ft (?) apart, then declaring, “We’ve found the Great Hall!”, because, “They’re normally that size”! I know they had that lovely old plan to work from, but a little more proof for me, please!

A lot more banter shown between the Team, which I enjoyed, especially JG asking MA, “Are you going to be digging today?”, MA answered, “Only if it warms up!”

Not my favourite period, but an enjoyable and interesting programme!
