This is a different problem to do with the computers dialing out more calls than they have actual human operators to field them; there has been a big rumpus about this recently (e.g. in consumer media programmes) and the regulatory authoritities have taken up the issue. The problem should reduce but is unlikely to go away entirely.
It is the US electronic voices with lottery wins that annoy me the most – as it’s pretty pointless swearing back at a computer!!! 
~ at least they cut off immediately when I use the answerphone to filter calls.

I think half the reason we don’t get so many junk phone calls now is that to successfully poll this sort of area you need operators who can sell their product not only in English but also Italian, Chinese, Somali, Ibo, Hausa, Turkish, Greek, all the languages of the Sub-Continent, Polish, Arabic, Serbo-Croat, Portuguese and others I don’t know. Newly opened is an Ethiopian cafe and down the main road are a Columbian and Ecuadorian cafe/restaurant next to each other so we can add Spanish too. (I’ll be happy to hear an explanation of the difference between Columbian and Ecuadorian cuisine!!

But it probably makes it not worth the candle to try and phone…._________________
