I pretty sure the site was flat before they did any digging. There would also have been a lot of disturbed soil around from previous road and rail work in the immediate area.

As far as I know, the road widening is still going ahead, but not before the area has been thoroughly checked.

The road widening will go ahead, I think I can safely predict
I believe the MOL did want to undertake some more work on the site before work started. Due to it being taken over by the swampyites, this is now unlikely to happen.
