How Earth Made Us

Took the precaution of recording this as I was past watching anything last night. He's good is Ian Stewart, and this was an excellent programme. Sobering to think that Istanbul is likely to be destroyed by earthquake in our lifetime

It was very good - but what a way to find out you were claustrophobic :D.

Sue - if he were truly claustrophobic he'd have been screaming to be lifted back out of the well, not taken a walk along the channel! :D You wouldn't have got me down there at all, but all credit to the cameraman as well!

I've still not finished watching the first episode - a bit repetitve imho with all the recapping and reiteration of facts. I felt like shouting "we got it the first time!" on several occasions. And whilst nobody can doubt the presenter's enthusiasm, his unnecessary habit of stressing/emphasising every couple of words began to get on my wick a bit. I guess I'm just too used to a more even, laidback tone!

Agreed. There is far too much dumbing down these days.

I've decided to stop watching this, the constant re-caps and the permanently awe-struck style of the presenter were wearing me down. Too much focus on spectacle and not enough information.

I recorded the second episode and haven't watched it yet but I'll give it a go - although from what Fil says it probably doesn't improve!

Oh well, I like it and shall continue to watch it. Although I've watched all his previous programmes I still find his style, if a little energetic, more enthusiastic than too much in your face. I didn't find the recaps too bad - certainly much better than TT or its recent spinoffs. And I have learned a lot I didn't know, but maybe I'm just ignorant on geology. You can't please everyone

I am with you Nish and really enjoyed it but then I find scientific programmes really interesting however bad the presenter is although don't have a problem with his enthusiasm for a subject he obviously loves
