A silver button that had a pattern of a crossed sword and mace over the letters ‘CC’ had me confused for a long time as it looked like it ought to have some military origins. I researched it further and it turned out to belong to members of the Constitutional Club, London, which was founded in 1883 as a rendezvous for Conservatives and demolished towards the end of the 19th Century.
